Mark has been involved in rowing since he was a freshman at Loyola Academy. Over the years he has been an oarsman, a coach, a volunteer, a director, a salesman, and always an advocate for rowing.
Recent accomplishments include acting as expedition boatman for the circumnavigation of Lake Michigan by Jenn Gibbons for Row4ROW.org. Mark's duties included running land-based logistics and support, communicating frequently with Michigan State Police, as well as carrying all needed supplies and provisions for the entire crew. Mark's on-road commitment spanned over three weeks continuous and over 2000 on-road miles. However his work with Row4ROW started years earlier with performing repair and maintenance work on Liv, Jenn's 19 foot ocean-class rowing boat, in preparation for her 1500 mile on-water expedition.
Mark frequently works with the majority of rowing programs in Chicago, including volunteering for Recovery on Water, acting as the boatman for the Chicago Training Center, and coaching the club program for the Chicago Rowing Union. He is a USRowing Level III Certified Coach, he has a Substitute Teaching Certification from the Illinois State Board of Education, and he has been certified by National Catholic Risk Retention Group (VIRTUS). Mark is also an advisory member of the Millennium Reserve Initiative and is a current member of the Lincoln Park Advisory Council. Mark learned rowing shell repair at Klinger Engineering of Whatley, Massachusetts and holds a safe boating certificate from the State of Connecticut.
Mark handles boathouse development, boat brokerage, carbon fiber repair, rowing in Chicago, and transportation for the Rowing Group. He is a product of the Chicago rowing community, having first become a junior member of the Lincoln Park Boat Club in 1994. He was also born and raised in the City of Chicago.
